ABOUT
Showcasing what Waterford’s indie scene has to offer, Woody have been releasing original music together since 2020, starting with their debut EP Bananas which quickly garnered the lads a fan base in their local music scene. Each song on the EP was highly regarded but none more than the opening track ‘Single Bed’, a pop inspired tune about unrequited love which gave the band its first taste of radio airplay.
When live music made its return following lockdown, Woody hit the ground running playing their first ever set of original music to an audience in The Theatre Royal - Waterford’s premier music venue - before becoming the house band for An Uisce Beatha which went on to win Munster’s Best Pub award that same year. It was in An Uisce Beatha where the Woody lads began to get a reputation as one of the most entertaining live bands in Waterford, with some wacky onstage antics as well as having one of the most charismatic frontman in the town with Craig Dunphy.
Woody began work on their debut album ‘Beans On Toast’ late in 2022 and following an interview on Waterford’s most listened to radio show ‘Déise Today’ with Damien Tiernan the lads released the album’s title track ‘Beans On Toast’ with the b-side ‘You Don't Get Me’. Throughout 2023, the lads released four more singles and in 2024 they finished the album. Following the release of the ‘Beans On Toast’ album, the lads returned to the gigging scene kicking it off with their album launch gig in a packed Bank Lane with support from EJ Mae and Washed Out, followed by gigs in An Uisce Beatha, The Victoria House and three gigs in Geoff’s Cafe Bar alongside artists such as 2Time Charlie, Midnight Blind and Modern Dilemma.
Now in the latter half of 2024, the lads have begun work on their second album ‘While I’m Away’.
Watch Woody perform some of their songs at their live session shot by MakeDream Productions and Trevor McGrath.
